Now the new project from gothic lord Nick Cave working under the name of GRINDERMAN with his new single No Pussy Blues out on Mute. Soundin' like he's got the freedom to do what the chuff he likes. No Pussy Blues goes from spoken poetry to raging shouting. It grows and grows with menace untill we're teated to a wah-wah guitar that sounds like a fierce wind raging through a war zone. Its sounding a bit Iggy Pop and at times it has that preacher style similar to Jim Morrison of The Doors fame. Phil (the dad) reckons it sounds like he did when he first realesed stuff with the band The Birthday Party. B-sides a bit less angry and sounds a bit U2. Out on CD and very limited 7" What the label says: Grinderman are Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos. 'No Pussy Blues' is taken from their forthcoming self-titled debut album. Both formats include the extra track 'Chain Of Flowers'.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
